Sweet Potatoes with Applesauce

6 medium (2 pounds) sweet potatoes or yams, peeled and cut into 1/2-inch cubes 1 1/2 cups applesauce 2/3 cup packed brown sugar 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, melted 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup chopped nuts, toasted 1. Place sweet potatoes in 2- to 3 1/2-quart slow cooker. Mix remaining ingredients except nuts; spoon over potatoes. 2. Cover and cook on low heat setting 6 to 8 hours or until potatoes are very tender. 3. Sprinkle with nuts. Note: This recipe was tested in slow cookers with heating elements in the side and bottom of the cooker, not in cookers that stand only on a heated base. For slow cookers with just a heated base, follow the manufacturer’s directions for layering ingredients and choosing a temperature.
